HAITI CRISIS PANEL
Erika James was recently invited as an expert in crisis leadership to participate in an important panel discussion on the crisis in Haiti at the Darden School of Business. The six panel members provided multiple perspectives on the crisis in Haiti, including the political and economic context in which the crisis is embedded, and the short and long-term efforts to alleviate the suffering on the island. The discussion and subsequent Q & A also explored economic remedies for Haiti moving forward.

Crisis Leadership
In a recent article called “Crisis Leadership” written by Erika James and coauthor Lynn Perry Wooten and published in the European Financial Review, the authors consider the prevalence and cost of business crises. They argue the need for more effective leadership at all levels of organizations and within all industries across the globe. They offer the principles from their new book as a wake-up call for all current and future leaders, not to mention the business schools and other institutions that train them, in order to highlight the need for a changing leadership paradigm. Washington Post’s “On Leadership” Web series

Erika has joined a prominent group of contributors to the Washington Post’s “On Leadership” Web series, with her first post on April 20, 2010. The topic was on the airline executives’ symbolic actions in response to the Iceland volcanic ash crisis. On April 27th, she responded to the question about whether we can trust Goldman Sachs. And on May 28th she posted a provocative response to the question about BP’s spillcam coverage, entitled “Reality TV no replacement for compassion.” Continuing with the BP oil spill and the removal of Tony Hayward as CEO, she responds to this question on July 27, 2010, “Where have all the CEO heroes gone?”
